Self Safety with Clients

This stream is new for AAMP. The required courses have now been conducted by a SIFAM Master trainer. These courses now need to be developed for the Australian context.

The Self Safety with Clients (SSC) stream will consist of:
  • SSC Introductory – overview of many of the techniques.
  • SSC Basic – competency course developing proficiency of techniques with the person who grips or is agitated.
  • SSC Advanced - competency course developing proficiency of techniques with the person who is violent or aggressive.
The AAMP will be permitting two levels of workplace trainer and a fully qualified Level 4 Trainer in SSC. A person who wishes to train any of the SSC proficiency courses will need to become a fully qualified Level 4 trainer in SSC.

A person who wishes to train short courses, within their workplace, in techniques relating to the person who grips, will need to complete SSC Introductory, SSC Basic and a workplace training assessment in gentle release of holds. This will enable them to be a workplace trainer in gentle release of holds , conduct short courses for the carers of persons who needs motivation to move, who has behaviours such as grabbing rails, poles or clothing or takes hold of a person by the arms. Strategies that gently release these holds and maintain a caring relationship with the person are part of this level.
